Industrial production, observed by sectors, consists of: the manufacturing industry, the supply of electricity, gas and steam, and the mining and quarrying sector.
The dominant sector of the total domestic industry is the manufacturing industry, accounting for 54%, followed by electricity supply with 36%, and mining and quarrying with 10%.
Within the manufacturing industry, the largest shares are held by the production of: basic pharmaceutical products, food products, and other non-metal mineral products.
There are several support programs for the economy, of which the most important is the Program for Enhancing the Competitiveness of the Economy, implemented by the Ministry of Economic Development.
Industry diversification represents a very important aspect of further development, and development plans and projections should be directed toward this goal i.e. the production of products with a higher degree of processing, ecological food and beverages, construction, financial services, etc. There is also a great potential in investments in renewable energy sources, the construction of green buildings, sustainable organic agriculture, eco-innovations, improvements in energy efficiency and resource efficiency in SMEs, and the development of innovative entrepreneurial ventures in the fields of information technology and creative industries.
